Sky Sports and BT Sport selections mean that Liverpool will face two games in the space of 48 hours at the turn of the year as part of a congested Christmas schedule.
Liverpool will welcome Stoke City to Anfield on December 27 and then Manchester City on New Year’s Eve in a 5.30pm kickoff. Klopp’s side will then travel to the North-East to take on Sunderland for a 3pm kickoff on January 2.
“Now I have seen the fixtures and I am not too happy,” the former Borussia Dortmund manager told reporters today. “We have less than 48 hours between our game against Manchester City and in Sunderland. Less than 48 hours, I cannot believe.
“I learn more and more about this league and maybe I have to ask someone if we can ask if there will be another time for us at Sunderland.
“I understand tradition – I would never say Boxing Day is not a good idea as I love it. [But] I don’t know why we play Monday. Is January 2 a special day in England?”
