FA charge Sunderland manager David Moyes with misconduct

David Moyes was given his marching orders by referee Chris Kavanagh when he confronted the match official after a late penalty to Sunderland was not awarded in the 1-0 EFL Cup defeat against Southampton at St Mary’s on Wednesday.

As a result of his behaviour, the 53-year-old Scotman has been charged with using “abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official”.

The former Everton and Manchester United boss, who is yet to guide the Black Cats to a league victory this season, has until 6pm on November 1 to respond to the charge.
