Unai Emery believes his Arsenal side should have five potential captains among their ranks come the start of the new season. Arsenal have often been criticised for a lack of leadership on the pitch and Emery has a plan to eradicate that issue. Centre-back Laurent Koscielny is the current club captain and Emery confirmed the defender would continue leading his team-mates.
‘My idea is to know every player and to know their personality,’ Emery said. ‘Then my first idea is to have five captains in the team. But at the moment I don’t know the names.
‘Koscielny is the first captain now, and I have respect for that. Then we are looking for players whose personality is the best in the dressing room. ‘We want to keep the respect for these players and to find the captain.’ He added: ‘I want a team with confidence, personality, and intensity. I want them to be protagonists in each match.
