Rivers United finished in second place with 60 points from 36 matches in just Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season which means that they will represent Nigeria in the 2017 Caf Champions League.
The reception ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 8, at the Rivers State Government House with sports commissioner, Honourable Boma Iyaye revealing that it will be used to honour the heroes who have done the state proud.
“The state is planning a reception for the team and everything is being put in place to see that it is a success.
“Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt did remarkably well in a very short period of existence and the feat achieved has not gone unnoticed by the Rivers State Government.
“The government will use the occasion to recognise the success of the team,” Iyaye told reporters.
Responding on behalf of players and officials of the club, general manager Chief Okechukwu Kpalukwu thanked the Rivers State Government for the massive support which made it possible for the side to secure a ticket to next season’s prestigious Caf Champions League.
