Australia, Japan to do battle in international fixture in Asian nation next year

Australian Rugby Union (ARU) and Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU) announced the clash on Thursday, with the Test scheduled for November 4, 2017 at a venue yet to be determined.

While the Wallabies have played one Test in Japan previously – a 32-19 Bledisloe Cup defeat to New Zealand in 2009 – it will be the first meeting between the two teams on Japanese soil.

Australia have never lost to Japan in four previous games, with the Wallabies running out comprehensive 91-3 victors in the most recent meeting at the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

Following the showdown in Japan next year, Michael Cheika’s Wallabies will head to Europe to face rivals England on November 18 among other clashes to be announced on their tour.
