Ondo State Athletes Thursday morning staged a peaceful protest in Akure, the state capital over unpaid allowances, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
The athletes carrying various placards with different inscriptions marched to the the Ondo state Sports Council calling on the authorities to as a matter of urgency pay them their back long of allowances going to 17 months.
According to report, the athletes marched from the Oba- Adesida road to the state Accountant General’s Office.
For several hours, the aggrieved protesters prevented free flow of vehicles along the road.
Among the protesters are athletes who represented the state at the National Sports Festival, NSF last year.
One of the athletes who is a person living with disability, Oluwasola Johnson appealed to the state government to urgently intervene to alleviate their plights.
Calls put across to Miyen AKiri a journalist in Akure who is covering the protest for government reactions to the athletes were unfruitful.
