Tottenham vs Reading LIVE!
Tottenham return to pre-season action today as they step up their preparations for the 2020/21 Premier League season with the visit of Championship Reading.
Spurs players will be forgiven for thinking they should still be on their holidays just four weeks after the last campaign ended, but the new season is now just around the corner.
After a 3-0 victory over League One Ipswich at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last week, Spurs will be back in action at their empty 62,062-seater ground.
With kick-off at 3:30pm BST, follow all the action LIVE!
Goal! Tottenham 3-0 Reading | Heung-min Son 39′
That’s a brilliant goal! Lucas finds Bergwijn down the left. He cuts in, feeds it to Son, who opens his foot and curls it into the right-hand corner from about 12 yards out. Clinical.
38 mins: Spurs are looking to calm things down now after Reading got the better of the last 10. Mourinho cries “time” from the sideline as they play it round the back.
34 mins: Brilliant tackle! Reading come forward once more, but a poor touch allows a sliding White to get back an intervene. Dier completes the clearance after what was a crucial challenge.
33 mins: More good play from the visitors as Laurent burst down the left-hand side, only to see his shot diverted behind for a corner. It’s cleared once more, but the Championship side have come back into this in the last 5 minutes.
31 mins: It’s Reading’s turn to have a bit of attacking success. Hugo Lloris is forced into a somewhat routine save following a shot from distance. The away side are then awarded a corner, which is cleared.
29 mins: Tottenham just lacking that killer touch as they probe the Reading box once more. Bergwijn races down the left before switching it cross-field to Hojbjerg. He initially fails to get his shot away but does well to keep it in.
It comes out to Dele Alli, who audaciously flicks it over the top to Moura, before Reading clear.
25 mins: Spurs are looking increasingly comfortable with the ball. Their pressing has been impressive against a Reading side who look a tad rusty. Mourinho and Sacramento are as vocal as ever on the sidelines, but even they must be pleased by what they’ve seen.
Goal! Tottenham 2-0 Reading | Dele Alli
Tottenham 2-0 up, and it’s no more than they deserve! Dele wins the ball back in midfield. He heads it to Lucas, who returns it straight back with a delightful volleyed pass over the top. Alli then lofts it over the Reading ‘keeper. Stunning.
16 mins: Blimey, how are Spurs not 2-0 up? Moura does well to win possession in the Reading half, before sprinting down the right and feeding Son, who had the goal gaping at his mercy.
Son somehow misses, however, the ball cleared off the line after squirming past the Reading ‘keeper.
13 mins: Reading have another free-kick about 25 yards from goal. That was poor from Gedson, who let Reading in with a poor touch before giving away the free-kick when looking to recover. The resulting set piece goes harmlessly out of play.
10 mins: Reading have bounced back well since the goal. flicking the ball off Davies for a corner. Lloris is called into action once more as he punches it clear.
Hojbjerg then does well to clear and send Spurs on their way, before Alli finds Moura with an exquisite pass. The Brazilian tries to cut on to his right, but he’s tackled, the ball then going out of play for a corner.
Goal! Tottenham 1-0 Reading | Omar Richards OG 7′
Just as they did last week, Tottenham find themselves 1-0 up before the 10-minute mark. Ben Davies launches an incredible pass down the line to Son, whose block is then cleared.
Son then plays along the floor in search of Moura, with the Reading man beating him to it and diverting it into his own goal.
5 mins: That was a chance for Spurs, with Moura feeding Bergwijn in the box. He looked to flick it onto an on-running White, but his pass was overhit.
4 mins: It’s Spurs’ turn to come forward with Davies down the left. His searching ball narrowly misses the run of Moura, with Hojbjerg doing well to collect and recycle play. Gedson tries to take on his man down the right but ends up giving away a free-kick.
2 mins: White’s involved once more as he concedes a free-kick about 25 yards from goal. Lloris is called into action, punching clear after Reading won the initial header.
1 min: Spurs begin the half with possession, as you would expect. Harvey White gets the ball for the first time and looks for a searching ball to Lucas Moura. It’s cut out, but an early sign of intent nonetheless.
The referee has blown his whistle and we’re underway at an almost empty Tottenham Hotspur stadium!
Well, this isn’t a sight you see too often. After arriving late to the stadium, Reading have had an extended warm-up and went back down the tunnel just moments before Spurs re-emerged to the pitch!
They rapidly got their kit on and we’re about ready to start. Pre-season, ey!
Right then, we’re about 10 minutes away from kick-off. Interestingly, after arriving late to the stadium, Reading have had significantly less time to warm up out there.
Spurs were 2-0 up within 10 minutes against Ipswich. Wonder if we’ll see another fast start from the home side today.
Focus ahead of kick-off…
Heung-min Son hit a double last week and will be looking to get on the scoresheet once more.
There’s also a focussed Eric Dier, getting his first minutes of pre-season, while Dele Alli will look to build on an impressive first game.
