The 32-year-old has become Britain’s most-successful ever F1 driver by winning a fourth world championship title.

Hamilton overtakes Sir Jackie Stewart with his latest triumph and is now level with Ferrari rival Sebastian Vettel, while legendary driver Michael Schumacher is just three in front.

The Mercedes driver was all smiles at the end of the race, despite finishing way down in ninth place following a clash with Vettel in the early stages.

A puncture was the resulting damage from that collision, with Vettel eventually climbing up to fourth place but not doing enough to finish in the top two, meaning a piece of history for Hamilton.
