Abraham Nets Brace As Chelsea Pip Norwich 3-2, Bag First Win Of Season


Tammy Abraham netted a brace to help Chelsea beat Norwich City 3-2 at Carrow Road on Saturday – their first win of the season, before he got a standing ovation from the Blues’ traveling fans as he made way for Olivier Giroud in the 78th minute, Completesports.com reports.

It was a frenetic early exchanges at Carrow Road, but it Chelsea’s efforts that paid off first in the third minute of the match. Abraham tucked in a half volley from Cesar Apillicueta’s cross and ran to Frank Lampard to celebrate..

Norwich responded promptly as Todd Cantwell finished well, a move he started in the midfield. He went past two markers before passing to Morotz Leitner who in turn played it into Teemu Pukki. Cantwell was in the box to receive the final pass and equalized in the 6th minute.

Jorginho threaded a pass from the midfield to Ross Barkley who drove forward and put Mason Mount through on goal, and the midfielder made no mistake to restore Chelsea lead in the 17th minute.

Norwich were resilient at Carrow Road, refusing to be confounded by Chelsea ambitious spirit. Daniel Farke’s men stormed back to level terms in the 30th minute, against the run of play, when Emilliano Buendia played in Pukki who shot home from a tight angle to beat Kepa Arrizabalanga. The Chelsea goalkeeper reached the ball but couldn’t divert it away from hitting the net.

Chelsea however became the more dominant side after the break. kovacic saw his hopeful effort blocked by Godfrey in the 51st minute. And Apilicueta also had a goal-bound shot blocked in the 57th minute.

Emerson looked certain to restore The Blues’ lead on the hour mark after he was picked out by Pulisic but he shot lamely straight to Tim Krul from close range.

The moment that had been coming for Chelsea materialized in the 68th minute. Abraham received a pass from Kovacic, sidestepped a Norwich player. before firing home a right-footer, his second goal of the match.

Kurt Zouma had a goal ruled out by the referee Martin Atkinson in the 78th minute for a foul on the Norwich keeper.
