Petra Kvitova defeats Johanna Konta at quarter-final stage of Wuhan Open


The British number one Konta had been hoping to boost her hopes of reaching the end-of-season finals in Singapore but despite competing well with the two-time Wimbledon champion Kvitova, she was ultimately overpowered by the left-hander.
Konta had two opportunities to reclaim the break that Kvitova had secured midway through the opening set but after they went begging, her Czech opponent was able to seize the initiative in what was a tight contest.

However, Kvitova remained in control for much of the match and another break of serve in the second was eventually enough to claim a 6-3 6-4 win.

Kvitova will now face Simona Halep I’m the semi-finals for a place in Saturday’s final.
