The 2020 Royal Rumble saw plenty of surprising twists and turns, including the shocking comeback of the previously retired Edge, as well as names like Mighty Molly and a whole host of NXT Superstars.
One name we did not see at this year’s show was 16-time world champion John Cena – although the future first ballot Hall of Famer did have his eyes fixed on the WWE Network from the comfort of his own home.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Cena had heavy praise for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, and more specifically the annual 30-Man match that saw Drew McIntyre win and finally punch his ticket to the main event of WrestleMania 36.
Cena, who will star in the upcoming Fast & Furious entry F9 releasing this summer, specifically singled out the Rumble performance of WWE Champion Brock Lesnar. In fact, he called the “Beast Incarnate”, a man he has had plenty of experience working with in the past, the “best in-ring performer of all time”.
“I thought his performance at the Rumble was a clinic on how to establish yourself, how to establish those around you, establish the championship, establish the importance of one event. He did so in less than 30 minutes, and I certainly don’t have the skill set to do that, and it was awesome to be able to see a masterclass man put on a clinic on what to do and how to do it and I was really impressed with the Rumble.”
